I am once again rewatching Gaara vs Rock Lee. And when Kakashi learns that Gai taught Lee the Hidden Lotus, he is JUDGY AS HELL.

"Gai, are you telling me that genin, that BOY, knows the Hidden Lotus?" Talking about how irresponsible it is.

Kakashi, you are going to teach Sasuke the chidori in THIS SAME ARC.

"I don't know what this boy means to you, but I shouldn't have to tell you that we NEVER bring our personal feelings into this."

YOU FOCUS ON SASUKE AND ONLY SASUKE AS YOUR STUDENT BECAUSE HE REMINDS YOU SO MUCH OF YOURSELF AND OF OBITO.

and THEN Kakashi has the nerve to use his sharingan on the fight. So he can take Sasuke and teach him how to STEAL LEE'S MOVESET to fight Gaara in the finals smh

random thought: but every time i think about the chūnin exams arc from naruto, all i can think about is the rock lee v gaara fight.

What are your thoughts on Lee x Gaara

i don't dislike it, it's just not my cup of tea ig! i do see why it's popular but their other pairings speak to me a little more. love gaara making amends w him though, iirc one of the games added a scene w gaara trying to apologize that i thought was super sweet :)

in general i appreciate their rs for what it does for gaara (i also really like his potential dynamic with gai by extension) but them as a pairing never grabbed me fsr, possibly bc im not as invested on lee's side of things in this particular dynamic

tldr i prefer them as friends ^^ the personality contrast is cute

The thing about me is that I actually fucking love tournaments in a good shounen. I love it when a show makes these characters and their abilities and then is like "what would happen if they were matched in pairs and fought if out?" It can be such a great way to view the characters' different abilities & how they react to disadvantagious match-ups, and it ALSO creates such wonderfully interesting fight choreographies as you see the focus completely on the two that are fighting.

So while logic brain is going "how AWFUL that they're pitting children against each other in deadly matches for international relations", fighting junkie brain is going "FUCK YEAAAA SASUKE, BEAT HIM UP!!!!!!"

I did watch a bit of it in middle school and rewatched some of the first season recently and I liked it! I think I’m just spoiled from modern shounen anime but as cool as some of those early fights were it can be hard to get through bc they spend so much of the fight like standing still and monologuing and there are so many episodes to get thru… I do want to finish it someday tho! I don’t think I could skip straight to shippuden without missing like a massive amount of important shit but maybe I can find like an abridged episode guide or smthn so I can skip some of the filler (at least for my first watch thru)
